Your role and responsibilities:
In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain vocational experience through a temporary work placement. Each day, you will acquire knowledge by performing tasks as directed. You will also showcase your skills by supporting ABB's operations and enhancing personal education/employment opportunities.

This role is contributing to the Power Device Physics team at ABB Corporate Research Center in Baden-Daettwil, Switzerland. ABB Corporate Research collaborates closely with ABB electrification, motion, and process automation business areas to develop the foundation for the next generation of ABB products. You would support the research team in experimental tasks, develop the laboratory prototypes and infrastructure, and contribute with your skills to ABB's advancements by reinforcing our team of scientists and engineers.
You will be mainly accountable for:
- Executing experimental tasks and laboratory tests within the research team
- Performing subsequent data analysis of test results and comparison with simulation
- Developing and assembling laboratory prototypes, including the creation and optimization of 3D-printed models
You will join a highly motivated and multidisciplinary team that is engaged in materials, where you will be able to thrive.
Qualifications for the role:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Science, Physics, or a related field (advanced B.Sc. or M.Sc.); official enrolment required
- Practical experience and solid skills in general laboratory work
- Fast learner with the ability to acquire new programs and technical skills quickly
- Experience with CAD, LabView, MATLAB, or Python is beneficial
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods and 3D‑printing tools, as well as thermal/FEM simulations (e.g., COMSOL, Fluent), is an advantage
- Committed, self‑motivated, able to manage own tasks professionally while collaborating effectively in a large research team; capable of handling multiple assignments simultaneously
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken
