As an R&D FPGA Engineer, you will contribute to more efficient and sustainable future by development of innovative solutions for the ABB Power Electronic controller (PEC) platform. The PEC platform provides the building blocks which are used in several power electronic systems within ABB, like traction converters, energy storage systems but as well in wind converters and excitation systems.Reporting to the Head of Hardware and Firmware Team, you will work within a Scaled Agile Framework® and use your technical and professional knowledge to refine the What and define the How.

Your responsibilities
 

  • FPGA firmware (FW) development according to traction development process
  • Development of FW concepts and feasibility studies
  • Analysis of requirements
  • Creation of FPGA specifications
  • Design and programming (VHDL)
  • FW unit and integration tests (SystemVerilog®, Python, Tcl)
  • Creation of test-, release- and user documentation
  • Build and maintenance of development test environments (e.g. Jenkins Server)
  • Close collaboration with software and hardware development teams
  • Evaluation of new development tools and programming languages
  • Measurements and testing in the lab
  • Maintenance and continuous improvement of existing firmware

Your background
 

  • Professional experience using VHDL (FPGA or SoC)
  • University degree in electrical engineering (f/m/d) with focus on electrical engineering / information technology (M.S. ETH/University, B.S. University of Applied Sciences)
  • Good knowledge of German and English
  • Creativity and quick comprehension, as well as independent, structured and proactive working style
  • Knowledge with programming languages like C++, C#, C is helpful
  • Experience with agile development frameworks like SCRUM®, SAFE® is helpful
