Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to lead a team of researchers in the field of power electronic systems, with a focus on power conversion control, reliability, and EMC/Magnetics, and support them in achieving the agreed R&D targets. On a daily basis, you will guide and develop the team while showcasing your strategic priorities regarding technologies, platforms, and intellectual property. Your role is to guide and develop your employees, as well as ensure the team's future growth by managing a strategic project portfolio, ensuring there is a balanced mix of long-term projects with both low and high Technology Readiness Levels, and allocating staff to these activities suitably, including recruiting additional personnel as needed. The work model for the role is: #hybrid This role is contributing to ABBs power electronic solutions across the Motion, Electrification and Process Automation business areas globally. Main stakeholders are the R&D teams of various ABB Divisions, as well as product and technology managers. Your primary responsibilities will include: • Managing, leading, shaping and developing a research team of approximately 10 members. • Planning a result-oriented project portfolio for the team, including administrative financial control. • Contributing to and networking with technical bodies relevant to ABB R&D, inside and outside the company. • Developing and acquiring competencies that will be needed for the development of future products and systems. • Lab responsibility including safety, ensuring your employees are trained and enabled to perform experimental work safely. Qualifications for the role
 

  • Solid skills and a proven track record in industrial research and development with a minimum of 3 years of experience in managing projects. Experience in leading teams is advantageous.
  • You are passionate about new fields of research and technology and particularly about managing and developing highly skilled people in such an environment.
  • You are familiar with both laboratory work and using simulation tools, maintaining an eagerness to keep up with trends in power electronics, as well as with modern leadership skills.
  • Display an advanced understanding of power electronic systems, having expertise in at least one of the topics of reliability, EMC/Magnetics, control and a willingness to learn on the others.
  • A Master's degree or higher in Engineering or Physics, with expertise in power electronics is required. Having a PhD in the field of power electronics is advantageous.
  • Effective communication skills in English are necessary, coupled with an interest in dynamic engagement within a multidisciplinary environment. Knowledge of German is beneficial but not required.
  • You hold a Swiss specific VISA/work permit, or you are eligible for one.
