Your tasks
The PhD position is part of the research group of Prof. Stanoevska-Slabeva, with research focus on the broad domain of "Digital Communication". Fields of interest are: Analysis of the impact of both digital communication through different channels (web, social, mobile, smart products, audio and conversational, i.e. chatbots) and of cross-channel communication; Design and impact of push communication (i.e. push notifications); Persuasive communication; Impact of communication campaigns; Communication in specific areas as Corporate Social Responsibility; Design of Machine-Human Interaction and Automation of Communication Processes.
Your tasks will be:
- You work on your dissertation thesis in the areas of digital communication and technology use for communication. You receive guidance and coaching for your research project as well as access to an international research network.
- Your focus is empirical fundamental research (primarily quantitative or combined qualitative and quantitative research) of phenomena related to digital communication. Central tasks are literature work, collecting and analyzing data, and presenting results in peer-reviewed and high-quality scholarly publications.
- You support applied research projects with national and multinational organizations.
- You support the teaching activities of Prof. Stanoevska-Slabeva, including the supervision of bachelor's and master's theses.
- You engage with the scientific community by partaking in activities and providing services (e.g., presenting at international conferences, peer-reviewing).
- You engage in outreach activities to acquire projects and disseminate research findings (e.g., research talks, board presentations, official communication).
Your profile
- You hold an excellent master's degree (or equivalent) in communication science, information systems, social sciences, or related disciplines ("magna cum laude" or higher).
- You have strong interest in conducting high quality, data-driven research using quantitative methods, participating in international conferences and publishing in premier peer-reviewed journals. You have high ambition to excel in research, teaching, and academic service.
- You have strong conceptual and analytical skills and are motivated to acquire diverse methodological skills and knowledge.
- You have gained first experience in scientific work (e.g., writing an empirical master's thesis).
- You have strong self-discipline, good collaborative skills, an international mindset and the ability to work independently
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Additional written and verbal communication skills in German is a plus
- A rising track record in peer-reviewed research in the respective topic area is a plus

The Phd will be supervised by Prof. Stanoevska-Slabeva and the position will be based in her research group at the Institute of Media and Communications Management at the University of St. Gallen. Prof. Stanoevska's research team strives for research excellence and works with leading research institutions and corporations on research projects in the area of digital communication. The position offers employment at 80% for a duration of 3 years. The successful candidate is expected to enroll in one of the University's PhD Programs.
